Coombe Vale by-election result – Conservatives win two seats on Kingston council

Coombe Vale's new Conservative councillors

Coombe Vale's new Conservative councillors

Congratulations to Conservative candidates Lynne Finnerty and Julie Pickering who have been elected as councillors for the Coombe Vale ward following yesterday’s by-election.

The election saw a turnout of 43%. The Conservatives held their share of the vote from the 2010 election whilst the Lib Dems saw their share fall back below 2006 levels.

Labour appears to be the main beneficiaries of a swing away from the Lib Dems. Is this a sign that the ‘anti-conservative’ ‘can’t win here’  vote is less willing to support the Lib Dems in  this coalition age or did the Lib Dems from 2010 stay home?
