“A cup of coffee could land Conservative byelection campaigners in hot water after they were accused of corrupt practices” reports the Surrey Comet.
It seems that Liberal Democrat agent Roger Hayes was so moved by the “corrupt and illegal practice” of the offer of a cup of coffee at public meetings held by the Conservative candidates for the Coombe Vale by-election that he will be raising the matter with the Election Returning Officer. Mr Hayes said that he would be alerting the returning officer of the potential breach of the Representation of the People Act, to be “helpful”.
Wow.
Good job no one opened a packet of jammy dodgers…
